Rabbit/Piggy fact...

Updated: Jan 12

Did you know...

Adults rabbits/Guinea Pigs are actually lactose intolerant!

When feeding baby new born kits/pups, you can use kitten replacement milk for a quick put your hands on in any shop fix. However its better to use the small animal milk formula which is harder to find and Amazon is likely your best bet. However as bunnies/piggys grow they develope a lactose intolerance and so cannot have the kitten milk formula only the small animal replacement milk!

Milk formula is a great way of aiding poorly bunnies/Piggys due to the high vitamins. You can also use milk formula to help an underweight kit/pup gain weight. In these cases and in the case of bunnies older than 8 weeks I strongly recommend you do not use kitten formula, only small animal formula! At any age the correct rabbit formula is 100% better for them. However in emergencies if you can't get rabbit formula you can use kitten formula but only for bunnies under 8 weeks of age.

This is the formula you should always try to use.

This is safe to use in an emergency on rabbits under 8 weeks.

I had an adult bunny who was going thin and not eating and drinking, he was suffering from bloat as he had a blockage in his bowl. I managed to get him to drink some small animal formula and massaged his tummy twice a day. After 2 days he managed to finally pass the blockage and started to eat and dri k normally again. The vitamins in the formula helped to keep him going during his poorly stage. Without it he would definitely have passed away.
